Regeneration (Extraordinary) #
If the player suffers a Casualty result on the Injury table, then roll a D6 for Regeneration after the roll on the Casualty table and after any Apothecary roll if allowed. On a result of 1-3, the player suffers the result of this injury. On a 4-6, the player will heal the injury after a short period of time to ‘re-organise’ himself, and is placed in the Reserves box instead. Regeneration rolls may not be re-rolled. Note that opposing players still earn Star Player points as normal for inflicting a Casualty result on a player with this skill, even if the result doesn’t affect the player in the normal way.

Regeneration (aka Regenerate) doesn’t really have as much choice in regards to how you use it compared to most skills. If your player gets injured you pretty much are going to use Regeneration nearly every time. There are perhaps some circumstances where players with Regeneration may also have an Apothecary on the team. In these cases you have to decide if you are using the Apothecary before you roll for Regeneration.
Most teams that people will notice this, is the Orc team where they may also have a Troll. Most coaches will probably not use the Apothecary (if they have one) on the Troll, as there are probably more valuable players on the team (who don’t have the Regeneration luxury) that they would prefer to protect. Vampires however are a different story and they have more of a case for the greater protection of using the Apothecary and then having Regeneration as a back up as well.
From a tactical point of view though, Regeneration on the non Apothecary teams has some relevance. Typically those teams will have some players that don’t have the protection. Ghouls being the most obvious example. This means that is makes sense to screen those players off using your Regeneration players.
That is pretty much the same as screening off any useful but fragile players from any team, though it is worth realising that Regeneration does have that small tactical value on pitch, as well as having its usefulness off pitch too.
