The Draug: A Creature for Vaesen
And as bad as he had been to deal with in life, he was a great deal worse after he was dead, for he walked again a great deal.
— Laxdaela Saga
Draugar are a type of revenant, most common in Iceland but known across the Mythic North. They are presented here for Vaesen with descriptions of powers drawn from the Icelandic sagas, plus case studies of four legendary individuals and a description of a common sub-type: the haugbui or mound-dweller, which inspired Tolkien’s barrow-wights.
