EnGarde LARP: Live-Action Roleplay Rules

Weave blades, magic, and intrigue in the world of EnGarde de la Rosa

Introduction Uncategorized

EnGarde LARP brings the tactical dueling, factional drama, and magical lore of the EnGarde tabletop universe to life. Designed for both seasoned LARPers and newcomers, this system emphasizes safetyimmersion, and dynamic storytelling through a blend of boffer combat, social roleplay, and skill-based challenges. Whether you’re a cunning diplomat, a spell blade mercenary, or a cursed mystic, these rules will guide your journey in the war-torn Accord lands.

Core Principles

  1. Safety First

    • Weapons: Use boffer weapons (latex or foam) approved by game marshals. No thrusting to the face or groin.

    • Magic/Abilities: Spell effects are signaled by colored ribbons or beanbag packets (“spellballs”). Verbally announce attacks (e.g., “Firebolt—three damage!”).

    • Consent: Respect boundaries—use the “Hold” gesture (raised fist) to pause play if needed.

  2. In-Character (IC) Immersion

    • Stay in character during play. Use faction-specific greetings, curses, or gestures.

    • Costumes should reflect your faction (e.g., Deverenian knights wear tabards with lion crests; Veilwalkers don frost-patterned cloaks).

  3. Rule of Cool

    • Reward creative roleplay and daring actions (e.g., leaping onto a tavern table to challenge a rival) with temporary bonuses.

Character Creation

1. Faction Allegiance

Choose one of EnGarde de la Rosa’s factions (e.g., Ironclad LegionNeon Syndicate) to determine your starting gear, reputation, and goals.

2. Traits

Assign points to three core traits (10 points total):

  • Might (Combat prowess)

  • Guile (Stealth, persuasion)

  • Arcana (Magic, healing)

3. Skills

Pick two skills from your faction’s list:

  • Ironclad Legion: Shield Bash, Rallying Cry

  • Veilwalkers: Frostbind, Spectral Dodge

Combat Mechanics

1. Basic Combat

  • Hit Points: 10 + (Might x 2). When reduced to 0, fall “mortally wounded” (roleplay death after 5 minutes unless healed).

  • Strikes: A boffer hit to the torso = 1 damage. Limb hits disable that limb (cannot use it for 1 minute).

  • Critical Hits: Call “Critical!” for headshots (with consent) to deal double damage.

2. Magic & Abilities

  • Spellcasting: Hold a spellball and shout the spell’s name (e.g., “Chain Lightning!”). Targets hit take damage or effects (e.g., “Rooted” for 30 seconds).

  • Cooldowns: After using a skill, tie a colored ribbon to your arm for 5 minutes (simulates recovery).

3. Duels

Challenge rivals to formal duels using the Three-Cut System:

  1. Declare intent (e.g., “For the honor of the Legion!”).

  2. Rock-paper-scissors best-of-three determines duel momentum.

  3. Winner narrates the finishing move (non-lethal unless agreed upon).

Social & Political Roleplay

1. Reputation

Earn Favor Tokens (crafted coins) by completing faction missions or aiding allies. Spend them to:

  • Call in favors (e.g., borrow gear).

  • Influence faction leaders’ decisions.

2. Intrigue Challenges

Resolve espionage or negotiations with skill tests:

  • Persuasion: Compete in a poetry slam or riddle contest (out-of-game).

  • Espionage: Hide a token on your person; if found during a pat-down, you’re exposed.

Magic Items & Curses

1. Relics

Find or craft items like The Shattered Crown (grants +2 Guile but whispers lies) or Emberblade (ignites boffer weapons for +1 damage).

2. Curses

Drawn from a “Doom Deck” for failed rituals or hubris:

  • Frostbite: Limbs stiffen—roleplay slowed movement.

  • Soulbound: You’re tethered to another player; straying >10 feet causes 1 damage.

Event Structure

1. Downtime Actions

Between events, players submit Letters of Influence to:

  • Forge alliances.

  • Sabotage rivals.

  • Research lore.

2. Grand Melees

Epic 30-minute battles with faction objectives (e.g., “Capture the Tron Node” or “Assassinate the Warlord”).

Sample Scenario: The Feast of Shadows

  • Setup: Factions gather at a neutral tavern to negotiate a truce… but hidden agendas abound.

  • Goals:

    • Ironclad Legion: Secure a trade route.

    • Veilwalkers: Steal a cursed artifact.

  • Twist: A masked assassin poisons the wine—players must uncover the culprit before time runs out.

Conclusion

EnGarde LARP merges the thrill of live combat with the depth of EnGarde de la Rosa’s storytelling. Whether you’re rallying your faction to war or scheming in the shadows, every choice shapes the Accord lands’ fate.
