About the Role
EnGarde Games is seeking a visionary Technical Director to lead the engineering efforts behind EnGarde World, our cross-platform indie title in development for PC and consoles. You will be responsible for architecting scalable systems, optimizing performance for limited-resource hardware, and driving technical excellence across the project. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone with indie game sensibilities and deep technical expertise in Unity or Unreal Engine.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and oversee the game’s overall technical architecture, pipelines, and codebase.
- Lead and mentor a distributed team of engineers across disciplines (gameplay, systems, networking, etc.).
- Optimize game performance for console platforms with constrained resources.
- Collaborate with the art and design teams to ensure technical feasibility and asset pipeline efficiency.
- Maintain a stable build pipeline and ensure deployment-readiness across PC, PS, Xbox, and Switch.
- Set best practices in coding standards, testing, documentation, and development tools.
- Contribute hands-on code in critical areas and unblock technical challenges.
- Ensure the team delivers on project milestones in alignment with production timelines.
Job Requirements
- 5+ years in game development, with experience shipping titles on console platforms.
- Expert-level proficiency in Unity or Unreal Engine in a production environment.
- Deep knowledge of console performance optimization (PS, Xbox, Switch).
- Experience in indie or mid-scale studios with limited technical resources.
- Solid understanding of networking, physics, rendering, and asset pipelines.
- Proven leadership and mentorship abilities within hybrid or remote teams.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and automated testing.
- Bonus: Experience with live-service games, backend integration, or custom tooling.
Performance Expectations
- Deliver a stable and optimized technical framework within 3–6 months.
- Achieve smooth performance (target FPS) on console hardware before alpha.
- Maintain a technically healthy codebase and dev environment across platforms.
- Foster a high-performing, collaborative engineering culture.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: €60,000 – €90,000 annually (based on experience & location)
