About the Role
EnGarde Games is looking for a versatile and imaginative Lead Game Designer to craft engaging RPG systems and player experiences for EnGarde World, our upcoming cross-platform indie title. You’ll be the driving force behind core gameplay mechanics, player progression, and console-friendly UX. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone who thrives in indie teams and knows how to balance creative ambition with production constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the design vision and core gameplay systems for EnGarde World.
- Design and document RPG mechanics including progression, inventory, quests, combat, and abilities.
- Adapt gameplay systems and interfaces to be intuitive on controllers and console environments.
- Collaborate with the art, engineering, and production teams to implement, iterate, and polish features.
- Analyze playtest feedback and adjust game balance, pacing, and features accordingly.
- Work hands-on in-engine (Unity or Unreal) to prototype or configure gameplay elements.
- Provide mentorship and direction to junior designers and cross-discipline collaborators.
- Contribute to creative ideation across narrative, world-building, and player experience.
Job Requirements
- Proven experience designing RPG or action-adventure mechanics, preferably on indie or mid-scale games.
- Experience designing for console UX and controller-first gameplay.
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats and collaborating in small, agile teams.
- Strong grasp of game balance, systems design, and onboarding flow.
- Familiarity with Unity or Unreal Engine design tools.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Bonus: Experience shipping games on console or multi-platform releases.
Performance Expectations
- Deliver and iterate on core gameplay loops within 3 months.
- Successfully implement player progression and combat mechanics for a vertical slice within 6 months.
- Ensure console-ready control schemes and UI experiences across platforms.
- Maintain a design vision that aligns with both creative and technical constraints.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: €45,000 – €65,000 annually (based on experience & location)
